My name is Lisa Patterson, and I'm a licensed practical counselor for the state of Alabama as well as a registered Play Therapist and a National Certified Counselor.

I received my master's degree in 1998 from Troy State University at Dothan, Alabama. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).  I've worked with community mental health programs as both a case manager, as well as a children's therapist.  I currently do contract work with The Alabama County Department of Human Resource and United Methodist Children's Home.  My internship involved working directly with abused and neglected children.  I've had extensive training in various child and adolescent problems ranging from Attention Deficit Disorder, anger problems, conduct disorder, low self esteem, depression, divorce, self mutilation, grief/loss issues, eating disorders and various other behavioral problems.

I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years, most of which have been devoted to helping children and families overcome difficulties which often arise in life.

I am a member of the Alabama Counseling Association, I served for two years as ALCA Chapter IX president.  I I continue to serve on many committees for the chapter.  I am also a member of the National and Alabama Play Therapy Associations, as well as the Alabama Mental Health Counselor's association.  I am a member of the Covington County Children's Policy Council.

I am married, have three sons and have made Covington County my home for almost 20 years.  As of March 15, 2006 my husband and myself became grandparents for the first time.

My Philosophy

Children learn from their surroundings and interactions with others.  Problems rarely occur in a vacuum and often change is necessary in many areas of a child's life before positive change can occur within the child.  Family members are often asked to participate in their child's treatment.

Child's Play Counseling Services officially opened in October 2001 on a part time basis and is now open full time from 9 - 5 most days.  Some insurances are accepted.
